Heart-Opening Sequence to Expand Your Aura

Our hearts experience so much in this lifetime. Keeping them open, clear, and stable can be challenging as there are so many forces in this existence that make us want to collapse, close and shut down our heart center. However, there are just as many forces that are loving, inspiration and encouraging.

This Kundalini Yoga set called Aura Kriya works to reset your electromagnetic field so you can attract positive energy and repel negativity. If you have been feeling a little “off” lately, this set will give you that jumpstart you may need or crave.

Each exercise can be practiced anywhere from 90 seconds to 3 minutes. But whatever amount of time you choose to practice each exercise, make sure you practice the same amount of time for each one.

As with all Kundalini sets, we start by tuning in. Here’s how:

  • Take a comfortable seat, close your eyes, and place your hands in prayer pose at your heart center
  • Chant the Adi Mantra three times: Ong namo guru dev namo (I bow to the divine teacher within)
  • Inhale deeply, suspend the breath, and release.

We all succumb to laziness from time to time. We lose our momentum, inspiration and motivation for projects –both personal and professional. It’s human nature. One of the great things about yoga is that it can shift us into a more proactive state. Often, when I feel sluggish or overcome by emotion, I will practice yoga to clear my mind.

While in Miami, Lauren and I were fortunate enough to visit the Miami Life Center, take some classes with the local community, and get tips and poses from online influencer and Ashtanga Yoga teacher Kino MacGregor to keep you energized and upbeat. Kino MacGregor is the co-founder of the Miami Life Center, creator of the online yoga platform OmStars, and author of four successful yoga books.

Find Your Center and Deep Calm with this Kali Natha Yoga Tantric Practice

The half-moon mudra, as demonstrated by Swami Jaya Devi, helps you connect to the transformational phases of the moon.

During our time at the Kashi Atlanta Urban Yoga Ashram, we had the privilege of practicing with Swami Jaya Devi, the ashram’s founder. Devi led us through a Kali Natha Yoga tantric practice known as moon cooling breath, which is designed to reduce excess heat in the mind and body, while connecting you to the feminine, intuitive energy of the moon.

There are two parts to this pranayama practice. The sequence with this breath pattern is meant to help establish yourself in your “center point,” where you feel calm and centered. The half moon mudra (pictured above) honors the different phases of the moon.

To prepare, make the half-moon mudra with your hands that you will take in various positions throughout the sequence: create a c-shape with both hands in front of your chest. Wrap the left hand around the right to make a half moon shape between the hands.
